As one of millions who were disappointed by the terrible choices we had for President in this past e******n, I want to go beyond the bickering and ask what you would have found to be a "dream team". Here's the ticket is would have wanted....

Mitt Romney & Jon Huntsman. Both well respected governors within their state, Romney led a health care revision in Massachusetts, Huntsman had been our Ambassador to China. Both highly respected businessmen accustomed to leading (not posing). Both demonstrated the ability to lead in a bi-partisan manner. They would have gotten my v**e in a heartbeat.

Maybe we can move beyond the "my dog is bigger than your dog" posturing and just say who would we have liked to see. If you still feel Trump or Clinton best represent your views, that's fine. They don't represent mine and so, instead of arguing, let's see what might have been.... and hopefully what still might be.

I can't answer your question......I don't generally pay much attention to politicians who don't directly represent me or are running to do so. I probably should...but there are but 24 hours in each day it's just not a priority to me.

That said....what I really liked about Trump was the same thing I didn't like.....his lack of tact. It's abrasive, but at the same time he isn't concerned with what anyone thinks of him and is not posturing for re-e******n. He says, perhaps not always eloquently or politely, what a lot of people are thinking....even if not politically correct.

I disagree with one thing. I think Trump very much cares what people think of him, otherwise he would not snap back so quickly with tweets and insults when people criticize him. George Bush, on the other hand almost never responded to his critics, and Reagan before him laughed them off. Even Bill Clinton did not seem terribly hurt by all the criticism leveled at him. It takes a pretty rough skin to deal with the whole country talking about your weiner, and then to just keep on doing the same thing as if nothing happened.

My dream team would have been Ted Cruz with running mate Rand Paul. Cruz was clearly the most conservative of the bunch, while Rand Paul was the most fiscally conservative. Rand Paul also has the coolest hair, while Ted Cruz looks like Grandpa Munster. Maybe he would have gotten along with Paul Ryan, who looks like Eddie Munster. Then again, they could bring in John Kerry who looks like Herman......??

now that you mention it, John Kerry looks a LOT like Herman Munster, but Herman still made far more sense! (As a life-long resident of Massachusetts. I feel confident of that statement. I only moved to Durham last August after 68 years in Boston and Cambridge.)

I am refraining from commenting on choices made by anyone else.... just want to see what others think, not debate them. Thanks for contributing.

I think Trump responds more to lies and calls out those who tend to spin. I get the sense that, at its heart, it is more about exposing lies and deceit rather than defending himself. Maybe 6-of-one; half-dozen-or-the-other.....but I think there is a subtle (or not) difference.

Like when he called out the "lies" about the size of the inauguration crowd by lying that he had the biggest crowd ever? And then single handedly kept the story alive in the news for weeks...

I think he responds to anything he views as a personal insult. He is the ultimate snow flake.

Your opinion.

The facts, on the other hand, are that he responded to a misleading comparison. Did you not know about that...or conveniently forget it.

F**e news, indeed.

Skfh - no offense. Your earlier post was off topic but I didn't want to intercede. The question was "what was your dream team". You never answered that but veered off to explain how you felt Trump was justified in his Tweets. I assumed your dream team was elected. We are now drifting over to familiar territory... defending. I would prefer to see who people would have liked to see run. It's a free blog and anyone can post what they want. This time in our history is about as d******e as it was during the Vietnam Nam war. I'm curious what candidate team you feel would be serving our country in a self-perceived better way. Just my two cents...,

Fair enough. I suppose my dream team choices were limited to those I had a choice about on November 8th.

If I had to choose a real dream team, it would likely consist of people that I know in real life....people you might not know (though one I have in mind is quite well-known, and is not qualified to serve as POTUS anyway.....but you did say "dream"). I wouldn't post their names here....but I'd want someone I knew would do what's best for the country and not for his or her own career and who would do what was promised and used to garner my v**e. I haven't seen that in any other politician, save Trump.

Okay, thanks. I understand your thoughts. I agree, it would be great to v**e for someone that, based on a personal relationship, we would know they would serve in the best interests of the country with integrity, honesty, and openness. I intended the question to be who among today's known politicians we thought would best serve our country for I think I can safely say that we are all frustrated and fearful of the way things are headed AND have been headed for over two decades.

Agreed.

I don't think Trump will fix things....that will take more time than he has....but, IMO, if he can begin to change the attitude and focus of our elected officials, as well as v**er expectations of the e*****rate....then I would count that as a rousing success and a big step to reversing our course.

I sincerely hope for everyone's sake, not just here in the States but in the world at large, that your hopes are fulfilled.

A journey of a thousand miles begins with the first step. IMO (to expand), that is the most difficult and painful of the thousand.....by a wide margin.

My compliments sjfh - I agree with your chosen quote. You are familiar with Lao Tzu's "Tao teh Ching"? Chapter 64 is excellent; my personal favorite is chapter 11 but I digress. I'm am now doing the very thing I ask others not to do, I am veering the conversation off to another direction.... how embarrassing!II

Thanks for your response, it is helpful to see the hopes of those whose beliefs and opinions are different but still well intended. This is what I hoped to get from this thread. I hope others contribute in an equally positive and revealing manner.

Best regards,
Ken
