New Canon Prograf 1000 - Problem loading Matte Paper

My new Canon Pro 1000 is having trouble recognizing the Canon Pro Premium Matte Paper.
Error code says that there is no paper loaded in the printer tray. ICC profile is correctly set for the Premium Matte Paper (which is a thicker stock than most of Canon's other papers). Is there another setting that I am overlooking to get the printer to see the Canon Premium Matte paper? All the other Canon papers that I've tried (Pro Platinum, Pro Luster, & Plus Semi-Gloss) load and feed without a hitch!

The problem is Canons matte paper has no watermark on the back so you are probably loading it backwards. The LEAST shiny side is the front.

Yes MT Shooter, I agree, it would be nice if Canon would watermark the back, but I assumed that the most textured side was the correct print side, and when that didn't work, I turned it around and tried the other side. No dice... printer still does not recognize that any paper is in the loading tray regardless of which side is up!

Have you set the printer to the proper paper size? They are a PITA printer, I gave one away and threw another in the trash.
Sometimes uninstalling the printer, rebooting the computer, then reinstalling the printer will correct some of their glitches.

I've never seen the 1000, but have the Pro 100. It would be helpful to know what size paper you were trying to print on and what paper slot you trying to use. The first time I tried to print a 13x19 I got a warning similar to yours, don't remember the wording. I was using what Canon calls the rear (I call it the top tray)tray and planned on holding the paper up as it printed. The printer wouldn't let me and I had to use the manual feed in the very rear. I also had to tell the printer to use the manual feed. So here's what I wondering, when you told the printer that you were using thicker matt paper, even though it might be only 8.5x11, it wanted you to use the manual feed.
As to printing on the wrong side of the paper, the printer doesn't seem to care. I was printing some old photos on matt paper just for the look and printed the wrong side. It had kind of a oldness to it. Did you know they had glossy paper a hundred years ago?

Problem solved! Apparently there were two issues which were giving me a problem with printing on the Canon Matte paper.
Matte papers (and thicker paper stock) must be fed manually through the manual rear tray. (I didn't even realize that there was another feed tray in the rear until I got to researching on the subject.) Also, there is a margin limitation when printing on Matte and other Fine Art papers. Thanks to all who tried to assist me on this problem!!!

Glad you solved it before I typed up the answer. You can't print edge to edge on certain paper because of the bleed and because the head is likely to catch on the edge of the paper and mess up the paper or print head.

Ken - you can remove the margin limitiation for matte papers on the Pro-1000, but I woudn't print borderless because of the overspray.

Quick trip for finding that side to print one. Lightly lick one of your fingers and touch a corner of the paper. The correct side will lightly stick to your finger...the other won't.

LOL, I thought that trick only worked for silver gelatin papers (darkroom printing).
