I've been taking photos for my own pleasure for about 30 years. Always jpeg with Picasa processing. Bought Adobe PS years back and soon realized I hadn't the patience. Now retired, would like to move to software pp superior to Picasa that doesn't require a masters to learn. Have read many discussions here in this regard and most are naturally geared toward professionals. Appreciate suggestions. PS I use a Canon 20D (love the bokeh from my 50mm 1.8) but considering moving to Sony RX10III.

Use YouTube videos to teach you on your pp program. Which version do you have.

If you have a MAC, Luminar is great.

I still think Photoshop is the way to go and it really is not all that complicated, just take your time, don't rush it and it'll all come together, once you get a little hang of it, it is an easy and intuitive software!

Thanks! Can one purchase Photoshop outright or is it a monthly "rental"?

Photoshop may represent significant overkill unless you are a graphic designer. I suggest you consider On1 Photo Raw (training and numerous short video clips to get you started) or a freestanding version of Lightroom /Ralph

Photoshop may be a problem on very old computers. It can run on just a little RAM but v e r y s l o w l y.

I don't know why, but PSE is worse and uses more RAM and slows down some computers more so, than the full version of Photoshop. I had that on an older computer of mine, PSE slowed it way down, til I got rid of it (that one I do find to be complicated,PSE that is). After loading the full version CS5 ext., the computer ran just fine, not slow in any way!

You may want to take a hard look at Affinity Photo which is a Photoshop alternative and you can purchase it outright without the monthly subscription, the one time purchase price is $49.95.

I really like PS Elements. Easy to do pretty much what one needs to do.

I'd start with Lightroom and then add some fun plug ins like the Topaz group or Nik. Smart Photo Editor is simple and fun.
