Suggestions for a good CD-DVD program for my computer

For whatever reason, Windows Media Player has quit on me and I keep getting messages that it needs a CODEC file, but when I go to Microsoft to find out exactly what it needs and how
to do it, I get no where. So, I've decided see if any of you can recommend a very simple program that I can download (rip) music CDs to, play them on my computer and then Burn a
CD for use in my car. I have VLC, however, I can't find any where on it where it will do what I want. Maybe it does and I just don't understand its 'language'. But, if anyone out there
has a nice simple free program to recommend that will Rip and Burn, that would make me a very happy camper.

For music - iTunes works well. Import the music as Apple Lossless and you can play it on your computer without the CD. You can also make a playlist of either the full album or a mixed group of songs and burn either to CDs that will play in your normal CD player like in your car. You need lots of hard drive space for lossless music as a 45 minute music CD will take about 200-300mb. My iTunes library has grown to 800Gb so far. Drives are (relatively) cheap but it does require back-up just like your Photo library. 800Gb represents a lot of time importing into iTunes. VLC player is used for playing video (usually).

I have two. CDBurnerXP and NCH Express Burn. Both are free will rip or burn and pretty intuitive to use. I have used them for years. My Windows Media is still functional.

Mark, My Norton said that your CD burnerXP is not safe and has been removed...

I have virus and malware installed. I see no indication of either with CDBurnerXP. Have used it since Win XP. I've also installed and recommended to friends. No one has encountered an issue. I uninstalled Norton 12 years ago becasue it seemed to interrupt and interfere with almost everything. Have been using AVG Internet Security since. Great protection, few bells & whistles. I do respect your concern.
