She's taken an interest in photography, so we threw her in the deep end of the pool. She's been doing some photos with me at the animal shelter, and today she tried her hand at some ospreys in flight. She used a Nikon D5200 with a Sigma 150-500, hand held. I think she did great for her first BIF! C & C always welcome.

She is also my daughter in law...and thanks to my calm and Zen like approach...she is progressing wonderfully...

Sometimes it just like telepathy.

"Do you have to have the f stop thing tattooed on your forearm?"

" Old man, I am going to make you some lemon bars to die for..literally."

It's that kind of special relationship.

She done good.

My first attempt at birds in flight resulted in clear blue sky photos without a hint of any feathers.

Your daughter in law did great.

Thanks, Bill! Mine, too, it was very rare that I had a bird in frame.

You are a good teacher. The shots are very nice. It is always good to start with slow moving and easier targets. They are real confidence builders. Tell your new shooting partner it only gets more addictive as you get better, and she is off to a very good start, so be prepared. Thanks for sharing.

Yes, she did well, and there's a hidden reason. Look at her grip. Instead of wrapping her fingers around the pistol grip her finger is pointing forward. In pistol shooting this is, coincidentally, known as point and shoot.

From a 2003 Army Field Manual: "When a soldier points, he instinctively points at the feature on the object on which his eyes are focused. An impulse from the brain causes the arm and hand to stop when the finger reaches the proper position."

Fast and accurate every time! Even with blue nail polish.

Thanks for your kind words, Bozsik! I hope she does get addicted. She's a good kid.

Thanks, OddJobber! Your comments are very interesting and insightful. This is probably only the second time she's used a long lens in her life, so maybe she's a "natural".

Interesting!...We are old and decrepit so the pistol grips are useful...I just assumed because we used them she would like them...but she had no problem without it.

Thanks for the comment.

In my first At least a bird was in the frame, but the wing tips weren't and the bird was out of focus
