I am a newbie to Photoshop but have been using Lightroom for about 4 years . Ive decided its time to tackle The big monster called Photoshop. Matt Koslowski has just introduced a new photoshop training course which he describes as being much more cohesive than any thing he has done before. Beginner to Intermediate. Ive tried a few Photoshop books but find they are just a bit to much - select this- select that I need more of a " Why " to select this and that !!

The course I am looking at is 129.99 which is about $190.00 for us Canadians. Not cheap but then again what is cheap these days ?? Has anyone tried Matt K's courses ?? does this sound like a good deal ?? or just marketing hype- Ive watched the vids explaining what and how he will teach and it seems to make sense. Any and all thoughts are appreciated.

here is the link to the course in case you may be interested https://photoshopsystem.com/?utm_source=Matt+K+Subscriber+List&utm_campaign=6e8af5dc9d-EMAIL_CAMPAIGN_2017_PSS-Testimonial&utm_medium=email&utm_term=0_3ac5889bd7-6e8af5dc9d-171141581&mc_cid=6e8af5dc9d&mc_eid=dfcd3ea88c

Ps I am far from computer illiterate as I am a semi retired 3D cad designer in the automotive tooling industry. As for my Photography skills id say I am well above a beginner but perhaps not quite at the intermediate level.
I want to expand my abilities and horizons so to speak with Photoshop.

again thanks to all in advance I havent posted photos in a while ......... time to get of my lazy butt and get going again !!

I bought this course the first day it was available. I'm into the first 3 chapters. It is very good. I've taken a complete course from Julieanne Kost and most of one from Chris Orwig, both at Lynda.com. Both teach Photoshop as if Lightroom didn't exist. The problem is that my base software is Lightroom. That is where I start and will end up.

This new course is different than all the others because it assumes that Photoshop is part of Lightroom, not separate. It is about how to use Photoshop as an extension and enhancement to Lightroom. For that reason, I took the risk of being an early buyer. So far, I'm liking it alot.

Do buy quickly! In Matt's promotional email he wrote, "After Tuesday, March 28th, these free bonuses go away and this course goes into my online store at full price."

Also, lynda.com give you free access through your local library membership--not all library systems participate. check your libraries website for online classes.

Many local schools have adult night classes , and some of those schools have photoshop classes. I took one. though I knew most of what he taught I still learned a lot. It was a lot morefun than
watching a video.

I respect what you have to say, but which local schools have these classes? When trying to find out, most of the people you talk to have no clue what Photoshop is truly about. Then, after enrolling, you get to the class to find your experience. And, I respect that. But, sitting in my PJs with a good cup of coffee, and no distractions, with the software handily installed on the same PC is just about the best learning environment I can conjure in my mind. :-)

I have tried a couple of on-line Photoshop courses with little success. It is hard to follow the video and do the steps in PS at the same time unless you are watching the video on a separate tablet or other device. Also, many of the presenters either go too fast and I can't really catch what they are doing or they go too slow. I ended up buyng Chelsea and Tony Northrup's 'video book' 'Photoshop CC Essentials' which includes 10 hours of video lessons and a well illustrated soft cover book for $40 at https://northrup.photo/product/photoshop-essentials/ It is worth a try - it might be all you need.

The issue with YouTube, Lynda, Kelby and so on is there is no structure to the course. Wanna know about layer masks? It's easy to do a YouTube search and find dozens of videos on the subject. If you watch a few of them, you'll see everyone does things a bit different. That's all fine, but when do you use a layer mask? How do you create one? What other tool would help in my endeavor? These, and countless other, questions pop up and that YouTube/Kelby/Lynda video suddenly becomes deficient.

Like most, I do the bulk of my work in LR, but I always know that I can likely make more improvements if I take the image to PS. That's what this course is about. Matt calls it a "system" of using LR & PS in the workflow. If you are advanced enough to know what to do, that's great, but you are the minority. Getting to be an advanced user requires some sort of structure to the learning. Creating a video about "a subject" can be easy enough, but stringing together a series of cohesive videos about a concept means the resulting video is not gonna be free. That's a lot of work and you likely won't find it in the aforementioned sources. Matt's system has 158 videos included.

I finished section 4 of Matt's system last evening. Much of what I've seen thus far I know already, except Matt shows some novel ways to accomplish the desired result. But, I notice that each new section introduces me to new things I know nothing about, and Matt does an outrageous job of explaining those things.

The 50% sale has ended, I think, but I still think this is worth the money. When you purchase, you download a couple of ZIP files, and expand them on your PC. All of the videos are now yours. The files are intuitively named so you can come back and review a particular subject at any time. There is a forum on Matt's site that gives opportunity to ask questions, and if you want to pay for it, Matt will even establish a Skype session with you to help you through the things you don't understand.

Hope you find this simple review helpful. If you use LRCC and want to include PSCC in your workflow, I'd invite you to take a look. It just might be what you're looking for as it was for me.

You are a bit ahead of me. I decided to wade through the beginning section on ACR even though Matt insisted that Lightroom users skip it. It actually made for a productive review of RAW techniques and I gained some insight into how I use Lightroom. Today I'll start section two. From other efforts, I know where the tools and panels are. But, a review the interface certainly won't hurt.

FWIW, I agree that true knowledge comes much quicker from structured learning. I used to be a flight instructor. Students with a history of prior learning from random instructors would have hidden holes in their knowledge. It was hard work to find those gaps and fill them in. It can be like a foundation with missing bricks!

I don't use LRCC although it comes with my subscription. I have been using PSCC for awhile, but I'm not proficient in it. Since I don't use LR, would you still recommend the course?

If you are looking for more proficiency in PS, as it pertains to photography (remember, PS is used by far more than photographers and accommodates techniques specific to graphic design) then I would answer Yes.

During the course, Matt elaborates on the benefits of using LR (actually ACR, which is the engine employed in LR, but present in PSCC as a filter). But, for most of the course thus far, he's been working in PS. I'm in section 5 of 11 sections, and just viewing the titles of the remaining sections, I know he's gonna be working with PS even more.

Same for me. Got plenty of time, so I've watched every video thus far. Rainy day yesterday, and I made good use of it. :-)

Incidentally, I took flight training back in the early 70s. Small, private aircraft. Cessna 150, 172 & 182. Moonie Ranger and Cadet. Didn't keep current, so haven't flown for years. It got quite expensive and no plans to pursue for income generation. :-/
