Perhaps a little rational thinking here might be advantageous...
Once you understand what the incident rate is in your jurisdiction you can likely get your cortisol levels back to normal...

Folks you will likely either die on the highway or from alcohol abuse...
Don't drive and abstain from the recreational drug of alcohol and you're likely to greatly reduce being in harms way...
In my state 13 persons out of 100,000 contracted Lyme disease in the past three years... this is not how many died from it...

Get worried about something that is real, like destroying your panaceas and liver with alcohol...
That is sadly a very real and present danger... Here are your odds in dying from alcohol use per 100,000 (by state)

If you have colleagues who work in the ER they will sharing with you the absolute horrors alcohol brings to the dance...

Here are your odds in dying in your automobile per 100,000 (by state)

And did I mention the use/abuse of tobacco product? Maybe let's just not go there, k?

Sorry, but I have to disagree with your conclusions; the statistic you cite of tick-related problems is one example of statistics when they are mis-used.

The figures for tick-related problems should not be based on the number of incidents per capita; instead, the figures should be based on the number of people who go into tick infested areas. I'm sure the relevant percentages would be much higher; tick bites are in fact almost a common problem among such people. Vigilance helps keep the problems down, but . . .

It's that time of year. Here is a quick shot of a nymph Blacklegged Tick (Deer Tick) that was crawling on me after a short dog walk
today. The dark object on the right is the tip of a round toothpick. These are the major carrier of Lyme disease in these parts.

I tuck my pants into my socks and spray with a good tick spray. Be careful of all ticks. There are some new diseases carried by other ticks. Do a close body inspection after any field trip. Of course, it is always more fun if you have help.

Reminded of Brad Paisley's song...
