Sorry, but I have to disagree with your conclusions; the statistic you cite of tick-related problems is one example of statistics when they are mis-used.
The figures for tick-related problems
should not be based on the number of incidents per capita; instead, the figures should be based on the
number of people who go into tick infested areas. I'm sure the relevant percentages would be much higher; tick bites are in fact almost a common problem among such people. Vigilance helps keep the problems down, but . . .
