I have a Nikon D70 (now where we insert the memory card) is broken, I hate to ask how much it would cost me to repair it. I have also quite a few lenses & the flash. Is it worth it for me to sell all my lenses and start fresh with Canon. Or should I have a look at Nikon 700 ?

Which lenses do you have? The D70 Nikon you have is dx format. It has a factor of 1.5 when used with certain lenses. The D700 is fx(full frame) camera, I believe.

Why do you think you want to switch to Canon rather than staying with Nikon?

Hi Sheila, I have a Nikon 18-70, 70-300, macro 105, plus a sigma fish eye, sigma 150-500. I have used the 70-300 the most since I find that I could do a lot more and it was easier to carry.

OK, when I try to insert the memory card in the slot in the camera it won't go down and I don't want to force it. But maybe I should try to force it and see what comes out, it can't be worse since I can't use it.

Don't force anything Doc, may be a simple fix. Look inside, use a flash light. One or more of the prongs may be bent. If that's the case you may be able to straighten them with a tiny screwdriver.

Two points:
1.) Do not force card into camera. Since you cannot use camera at this time, it would be worth the cost of sending camera to a qualified repair person, such as our own Ugly HedgeHogger Rick Riggins: http://www.uglyhedgehog.com/t-9370-1.html

Don't force it. I have a D90 which had the same type problem. After examining the last memory card which had been in it, I found that a piece had broken off the card and was stuck inside the slot. Unfortunately, I could not remove the piece, so I took it to my fav Cord Camera, where the man was able to get it out for me. I believe he told me that if sent in for repair, they would replace the slot at a cost of about $200. My cost from them? Zero. Not a bad deal! Just don't do anything drastic.

NO! Don't force it. You may just have a bent pin, at worst a $50 repair.

Are you sure you are trying to install the card with the right orientation? Take a look at your manual, it shows the proper direction for installing the card, in other words label down vs. label up. Just a thought. I had the D-70 been there, done that.

Did you try turning the card around? Not being a smarta## but this sometimes happens to the best of them.

stay with nikon you have the d7000 which is a very good camera
to work with also you have a lot of money in nikon lens
switching to canon would cost a lot of money as trading in the nikon lens for canon would not be to your advantge
