Excellent job Jules. What lens did you use?

Hi Toby: I shot these using a Nikon D500 with a Nikon 80-400 4.5 lens.
Thanks for the nice words.

Some good ones! Amazing how the batter was able to balance the pitch on her bat.

Totally Love the color harmonies, subject isolation and motion dynamics in the final of this series...
Appears your AF-S Nikkor 80-400mm f/4.5-5.6G ED VR mates nicely with the D500...
Interestingly this glass is only a tad heavier than your AF-S 70-200 f/2.8 so I'm assuming you're rather comfortable hand holding?
Or have you discovered the magical world of monopods... :)

Great Job!
Thank you so much for sharing your journey Jules...
Looking forward to more of your intriguing sports genre efforts...

I have seen many of your SPORTS photos. You do capture the image at times. But, they are not dramatic in the making. Try shooting from a lower angle, not a standing position. That's exactly the work we aspire to! Great job! (Sorry too old for the knees anymore. Can get down, just not back up. Some folks think this was easy and I will admit a DSLR provides a tremendous advantage!).

Nice job and that lens is working well for you. I shoot lots of sports and am always looking for that expression in the action! Like someone else said, get lower if possible. Understand about the knees. I find it is easier to be on both at the same time. Now, getting up, well, that's another story! lol
