I'm having a problem with my Tamron 18-200mm that I just bought for my Nikon D3300.
Somehow the Focus Mode and area mode got stuck. Me being a newbie, don't know what I did to get there nor I know how to fix it.
Please advise.

Can you describe the issue a little more? Are you saying that it's stuck in one particular focus mode? This is from my Nikon D7000. Is that what you're referring to? You mentioned area mode. There's an Auto-area AF mode.

When I have the Tamron 18-200mm on, the Focus Mode is MF and Area Mode is in single point I cannot change them. However, when I replace it with a Nikon 18-55mm it works.
Is that a problem with the lens?
Thank you for your reply.

It seems that the early version of that lens has the screw type autofocus that relies on the built-in AF motor in the camera body. The Nikon D3xxx and D5xxx series cameras don't have the motor. The D7xxx series and above Nikons have the motor. I'm not sure which version you have. I don't know how the lens can alter the AF area mode though.

I believe that I have an older version because it doesn't have VR - Should I replace it with the newer version or go for the Nikon 18-200mm instead?
