I must confess to a bit of a pash for abstract photography. One of my favourite subjects is an enormous sculpture by British sculptor Anish Kapoor and structural engineer Cecil Balmond called Temenos. Comprising two large steel ringsone circular, the other oval with steel netting strung between them, this huge work is a rich playground of form, line and perspective. Move a few feet one way or the other and something new appears. As such, it presents an almost infinite variety of photographic opportunities.
A few interesting facts: the word Temenos is Greek and refers to a sanctuary or land set aside for royalty or nobility. The sculpture stands some 50M high, 110M long and weighs 156 tons. It uses over five miles of steel cable and nearly 3200 cable clamps. Kapoor's latest work, Orbit, has just been installed next to the Olympic Stadium in London and I plan on visiting this 115M high monster just as soon as the ruddy Games have upped sticks and leftnothing would induce me to go anywhere near London in the next few months!
Enjoyand comment, as you see fit :D
