My Sony SLT 65 after three years of wonderful picture taking works perfectly. EXCEPT, yesterday morning. I turned it on and went to take a picture...in my EVF I saw a message: "No Card", I turned off camera, removed card, reinserted card and turned camera back on. Now I viewed, "----". Again, turned off camera, removed card, inserted a different SD card (BTW, I have used these cards for over 6 months with this camera and never an issue) and got the "----" message. I purchased a new SD card and went through the above steps, no change. I reset (intitialized) camera and still it will not see or recognize any cards! The red read/write lamp flashes but no change. Help, I cannot afford a new or newer camera and have a great assortment of A mount lenses. Any sugestions would be appreciated, just do not tell me to change camera brands. Thanks.

Always look for the least expensive fix first. Is there anything blocking a SD contact in the camera (lint, dirt, corrosion, etc.)? I would try blowing it out with canned compressed air (don't tip the can and send liquid in). Just something to try first.

Do you ever hook your camera to your computer using the USB card, to load pictures up to the computer from the card (through the camera slot)?

answer this first as a starting point. (sounds like your card slot may be malfunctioned)

I have never hooked the camera to a computer, always put SD cards in computer directly w/o an usb hub.

Could the tiny lock slide switch on the side of sd card been moved accidentally? The lock slide should be up.

OK... just checking. i have seen more than one instance where improperly disconnection a USB cord connected camera has shorted out the card slot. That's a major problem on digital camera's. It happens more than one would think. It does not sound however like you could have done that, if you have never hooked the camera to the computer directly. It's the first thing I look at when a camera loses it's ability to read or recognize a card.

Thanks, the "lock" slide in all three Sd cards were in unlocked positions. I tried inserting a locked SD card but the camera did not acknowledge the card, except by the "----" and later, Insert or Reinsert card notifications.

Contact Sony for customer service.

I guess i will, have never had any luck with customer service unless in warranty. Will call them after one. I tried googling issue but replies are all over the place and the issue, indeed, points to an electrical issue in the card reader. It is enough to bring a tear to the eye..

Take a pencil and rub the eraser over the contacts in the camera, then blow it out and see if that works. Sometimes the smallest bit of dirt will stop it fromworking. Good luck I
hope it all works out for you.

Thanks for the hint, did that second thing yesterday and again today, even new card is not read by camera. Usually, unfortunetely not always, there is a simple fix. I saw on line that labor and parts to replace/repair a Sony CaMERA card reader was just shy of $500.00. One could buy another Sony, new, for just a little bit more. OUCH!.

Have you "rebooted" your camera? If not, remove the battery and put it back in and try again. Sometimes it works.... But also gently blowing out dust can help. If you can see the electrical contacts inside the camera you could try cleaning them with a rayon swab moistened with rubbing alcohol.

That's discouraging. Format it in a computer and try again. That sometimes helps, but it sounds like repair or replacement might be necessary. Maybe the contacts aren't making contact. Put a little alcohol on the cards contacts and slide it in and out.

If you decide to take it apart, go to Amazon and get Japanese JIS screwdrivers.

Try a camera reset. Check manual (e.g. pg 62 > Initialize) or Google
