After painting the house today, I slipped into the back yard and captured this subject for shooting. I believe it is a carpenter bee, but I will let someone help me with the ID.

I think that's what it is. Carpenter bees come in so many varieties it is difficult to tag them; some look like smaller bumble bees, yellow and black strips and all and all different sizes and shapes. If you label it a Carpenter Bee, I don't think anyone is going to argue the point.

Thank you tramsey. I just had one of my facebook friends also confirm the ID - Male valley carpenter bee (Xylocopa varipuncta).
