I have heard that the above lens is going to be released in the Spring. Can anyone confirm this?

Spring of which year? The patent on this lens is approximately two years old with no lens in sight!

That rumor stated a February 2017 release date for this speculative lens, as well as a new 6D MK II, everyone is still waiting for both. Last I heard on the 6D2 was June. (Maybe)

Ahh, but have you tried the Canon 100 - 400mm f4.5/5.6L IS II + Canon 1.4 TC III? Though I had a copy of that lens, and thought it to be brilliant, I did not have the 1.4 TC. From what I have read, however, the IQ with the 1.4 TC is better than either the Tamron or Sigma 150 - 600mm lenses - it is also much lighter. Though I do find the Tamron and Sigma lenses appealing, my Canon 300mm f2.8L IS (an old second hand copy) + Canon 2.0 TC III provided absolutely stunning resolution on my 7D mark II.

Don't hold your breath... That rumor seemed to first surface about a year ago... and it predicted release of the lens in 2016. Well, guess that didn't happen!
A patent for the lens was filed in May, 2014. Ever since that filing was reported online, there've been various rumors floating around.
But the patent really doesn't mean very much... Canon patents a lot of designs that never actually get built and come to market.
