Young birds are cared for by the parents well after they can fly. You can often see the parent bringing food to young that are full sized. Most often you will hear the young begging the parent to feed it. Kind of like our own teenagers!
I agree that it appears to be a juvenile Robin. Just had the same thing happen in my back yard 2 weeks ago. I did not touch it but watched it and got some photos of it.
