Thought I throw this out to the Nikon groupies. Recently picked up a Nikon D750 with the AF-S Nikkor 24-120mm f/4G ED VR lens. Enjoying the camera and lens so far while still mastering it's intricacies. Looking into the future, thoughts on which Full Frame lens I should put on my wish list. Camera pretty much used as an all around, photographing at model train shows and displays, the family dog, family affairs, and backyard wildlife plus other sights and scenes.

Here's the Nikon full frame zoom Trifecta:

16 - 35
24 - 70
28- 300

I have this comprised of Nikon and Tamron (24 - 70).

Start a list of shots you would like to take with your present lens and can't after awhile you will see what lens you need. May be a Macro or a super wide angle or a prime or very long one. Could be it will be a "lens Baby". We can just tell you what lens we like not what you will like or need. - Dave

Right now, my answer would be none, based on what you currently use it for.

A terrific addition to your current lens on that body is the Nikon AFS 80-400mm Nano lens. It will get you much closer to that backyard wildlife as well as expand your capabilities immensely.

The 28-300mm is my "Always" lens. I also have the 80-200mm f/2.8 and 35-70mm f/2.8, bought bought used. I like the Tokina 16-28 for wide angle and the Sigma 15mm fisheye lens. I had the 105mm Micro, but I wasn't using it enough, so I sold it.

16-28 f2.8 Tokina has done well for both my D7100 and D810.

Go with the 70-200 and your are covered for all things but landscapes and superwides. I have more lenses than necessary, but this one gets more use than all of the others combined.

I am a big fan of shooting with a 50mm, so I suggest the Nikon AF-S Nikkor 50mm f/1.8G. That said, when determining what lens to buy, you need to decide what you want to accomplish, and what lens will help you accomplish it.

I do the reverse. I decided to get a fisheye lens to see what I could do with it. Fun!

For what you say you shoot, unless your going into wildlife big time (200-500mm f5.6 Nikon) you have all the lens you will ever need in the 24-120.

Check out some YouTube videos about "best Nikon lenses to buy". One by the Angry Photographer is interesting. Check out reputable places like Adorama, B&H, and KEH for used lenses. Perhaps you might think about getting something for low light photography like an f/1.4 or f/1.8 lens (24mm, 28mm, 35mm, or 50mm). One of those would be great for general photography as well as low light work. A Nikon 80-200mm is a great alternative choice, too.

I agree with what you have and what you propose to do the 80-400mm would be a good and useful choice.

I would look at the Nikon 70-200 f4. Its light weight and extremely sharp. You will have to get it new, no one ever seems to sell theirs. The other lens I would recommend would be the Nikon 16-35 or my favorite, the 17-35 2.8.
