I'm sorry but that's cute! :)
3 stall's. it is 24' deep by 38' wide, has a 16' b 8' door and a 8' x 8' door. Three cars should fit in it. Right now there is a 70 Jag xke coupe and a 94' ram 250 van that will be replaced with a 2013 f150. The third bay has about 1500 to 200 board feet of oak, walnut and cherry lumber and all the extra stuff my daughter did not take when she got married and left home.
the brick are modular thus scaling shows the bird is about 4 1/2" long

I think it's called a "&^%$ bird".... as in, "look what that &^%$ bird did to my 3 bay garage!!!!"

Well if the bird bore that hole into the wood I would think it would be in the woodpecker family, but I don't know any more than that.

I don't know the actually name but my husband would refer to it as "one beepin' dead bird" ;)

Flicker? They do bore holes in siding....
I agree with Kdet it is a wren!
It is a house wren, but I'd say it wasn't the one who made the hole.
My vote is for a Flicker.

Think he's got it right .... One not too loud noise ...end of problem. I'll put up with most things that wildlife does, but when it becomes destructive , I have very little patience.Hard to appreciate them when they cause that kind of trouble.

I agree that it's probably a Wren, but I think House Wrens have less pronounced brows and the bill looks too long. This looks like a Rock Wren, but the nesting is way out of character. I think this a female; can you get a picture of the mate? I'm fairly sure it's not a flicker. I will save the second photo until I can talk to my friend at CA Fish & Game.
