Just wanted to say hello, found this site a little while ago and although most of you are miles away I love your chat and humour. I can relate to a lot of the questions and find the answers very interesting. Must admit i have a look every single day. Before anyone asks I live on the South East coast and The Channel Tunnel goes more or less under my house!

Oh! not heard of the 30 mile tunnel that goes under the English Channel connecting U.K to France. What about the white cliffs of Dover, probably not never mind it does exist honest. I live a stones throw from The white Cliffs so I can do a picture of that one, the tunnel probably get arrested taking pictures there so I'll leave that one :)

The Channel tunnel goes under the English Channel pretty close to Folkestone and Dover (The'll be bluebirds over, the White Cliffs of Dover" and runs under water for abour 21 miles to France. It is a railtunnel only with walkways to facilitate removing passengers in case of an emergency!
The original was started in the days of Napolean but was never complted because it was feared that it would bge easy to invade England from France. I would have let them get most of the way across and pulled the stopper and flooded them out! Haha. I never went across the tunnel prefering the 90 minute trip on the ferry. Much more fun!

I used to live in Hastings, a bit along the coast (westwards) but did live for a bit in Folkestone in the second world war. I used to print the Folkestone newspaper as well!

Ian
And welcome to the UGly Hedgehog club!

Hi running girl! I've just joined this site. I'll soon be travel writing and need to learn some photography from the bottom. How's Kent? I'm from Billericay Essex just across from you and now living in Canada. I went back a year ago and couldn't believe how everything had changed so much. I felt like a stranger.
Just wanted to say HI.

Pam

Oh >> THAT << tunnel - I've been through it once. Wasn't much to see though, so thinking a shot of the tunnel might be a black rectangle :) :)

Well there we go Ian I too used to live in Folkestone, can you remember the road? I wasn't around in the 2nd World War, but that paper is still going strong The Folkestone Herald. Folkestone its self really isn't up to much at the moment quite run down, I'm sure you are in the nicer place by far.

Hi, running girl and welcome. Not extremely familiar with British pre-history, but wasn't the Kentish kingdom in existence long before the Romans arrived? Not sure, but wasn't Boudica from that area?

Welcome Running Girl. I thought the Brits called it the "Chunnel."
Maybe it is like people from San Francisco cringe when they hear "Frisco."

I lived in Staplehurst years ago with my family - wife and two children - while I attended a course on community development at the U of London. Took the train in every day. The course was delivered by Reginald Batten, a wonderful man, long since dead. I still have his books somewhere.
