I have been using Pucasa for a number of years and have been very satisfied with it. I don't do a lot of post processing and am not interested in the more complex programmes such as Photoshop. I have been told that Faststine is a significant improvement over Picasa. Does any of you uses Faststine? Does it load the photos into the computer in the same way that Picasa does?
Thanks in advance

I believe the program you are looking for is FastStone Image Viewer ans it is downloadable from several places.

Yes FastStone. Does anyone 'out there' use this programme? My question is the same as before - does it upload photos in the same fashion as Picasa? Is it as user friendly?
Thank you

I used to use Picasa, but now I use FSIV for all of my image editing: http://www.faststone.org/FSViewerDetail.htm

Thank you. I just now commenced to load the software and my antivirus software warned against the site. Have you had any issues?

No issues whatsoever (from the link I posted above).

A friend of mine was so dissatisfied with Picasa that he started calling it Pucasa, from 'puke' ...

I've been using Fastone Image Viewer for many years to do post processing on photos and illustrations commercially. It's free for non-commercial use but I was more than happy to pay for a seat so I can use it in my work. Extremely reasonable price for the power you get. If you download it from the Fastone site you shouldn't have any problems. Download the user manual too if you think you need it but it is very user friendly after you get used to the tools being arranged off-screen on each side. You can also download a portable version that will run from a flash drive so it doesn't load into your registry. Hard to go wrong on this one.

Thank you Bookman. I'm so comfortable with Picasa (not Pucasa) and like the ease with which it loads the photos into an easily accessible format. Does Faststone do the same? Do I have to erase Picasa before I begin to use Faststone? Leaving Picasa 'there' will result in an updated Picasa portfolio of photos. Will this get in the way?
Thank you for your indulgence.

Sorry, Eric, I've never used Picasa. Fastone is simply an image editing program and will edit photos from folders that you create. When you edit an image you have the choice of saving the edits to the original file or saving to a new file name if you want to preserve the original. All standard stuff. I suggest downloading the portable version and just trying it, either from a folder on your computer or from a flash drive. If you don't like it there is nothing to uninstall.

Like I said, you just have to create your own folders and do a standard upload from your camera to your folder.

Thanks for this memory jog. Haven't looked at FS in a loooong time. I just finished my checkout playing with it and does indeed equal or better Picasa. I still like Picasa for it's ability to quickly build web pages. I spent much time in past years customizing the Picasa templates; so, probably still be using it for page creation. I'll definitely put FS to use.
