hi all,
i know there is a section for printing questions, but i can't seem to find it, so i need to ask here. I am trying to print black and white 8x10 (actually 10x6.667 when scaled down) photos on regular 8.5x11 paper on an Canon Pro-100 from Photoshop CS6. My prints are coming out with a very faint whitish border around the picture..I learned in my photography class to adjust the image size, then adjust the canvas size to the paper size and it works out fine at school. But here at home, no so much. How do i get rid of that faint border? As you can tell, I'm pretty new to the digital print world so any help would be greatly appreciated!
Juli

The easiest way to print is using the plugin from Canon. It's called Print Studio Pro. You can download it from the Canon website. Just google 'software for Pixma Pro-100'. I am assuming that you have taken a color image and converted it to B&W in Photoshop. Double check your image size by going to Image>Image Size and make sure you've got the settings right for that size image you want and you've got 300PPI resolution. If you are using 8.5x11 paper and your image is 10x6.667 then check your print driver settings carefully to see if you are printing with or without a border.

Here is a good tutorial from Picture Correct entitled How to Prepare Your Photos for Printing.
Hope it helps you.

There is a lot out there that can help you on you-tube and other areas but I purchased the Kindle book by Robin Whalley Perfect Prints Every Time. It's only $4.99 and it's been a big help.

With my Epson 4 in 1, I have to be sure to select borderless for the paper feed type. And I was wondering why you're using "regular" paper instead of photo paper?

Juli,

If you are still here, I have the same printer and Photoshop CC. If you list the steps you are doing, I should be able to help. I suspect it will be that your printer setup needs some "adjustment" before it acts like the ones you have at the class.

You are putting an image of one ratio 6.667x10 on paper with a ratio of 8.5x11? You either have to enlarge the image to cover as a borderless print - and lose part of the image or you print the exact image and of course have to trim off excess paper. You are not going to get an 8x10 unless you distort the image since it is not 8x10, it is 6.667x10. Scaling the image up to do 8" wide borderless would need to be 11.9 height so you would have to print on 8x12 paper.
The only way you will get a borderless 6.667x10 is print it on the 8.5x11 paper and then trim.
I am probably wrong and will be told so by multiple posters. I spent my career playing with words and ideas as a history/geography/government teacher. Math and I are just passing acquaintances.

You will always get a white border printing 8x10 on 8.5x11 paper. Proof is just multiplying the numbers on a calculator. 8x10= 80, 8.5x11=93.5 sq in. If you are trying to get just borderless print, make sure the option is checked on the printer controls.
