Having seen some members practicing with mannequins lately, I thought I would get my girls out of the closet, dust them off and try some light practice. (What they both were doing in the closet is a question I don't want to know the answer to.) Anyway, the only light was a 20" soft box with a CFL lamp inside. The light source required a change in the camera's white balance and due to its low illumination, was setup about 12-18" from the models and feathered for the most part to send the light across the face rather than straight at them. This actually creates a softer wrap-around effect. I also prefer moody-noir type shots that some may not care for.
Camera was a newly acquired Nikon D50 (which I'm beginning to like a lot) with a 28-80 kit lens and most shots were between 50mm and 75mm at f4.5. Post processing in Picasa.
Hope to try some different light techniques in the future. Thanks for looking.
Not bad at all for a single light source. I like the shadow effect.

Oh, yea! Thanks for looking, SkyKing. ;-)
Good job, if a bit creepy.
That's a great way to practice..interesting..
Thanks, Lauryne. Just playing with light now...did portraits/weddings/legal photography decades ago...long before digital. ;-)
