Every now and again someone will rise and bring back talents of long ago.
I consider Jonathan to be the Best Tenor in the world.
I listen to a lot of different types of music now and again.
Like Allison Krause's voice is to Country, Jonathan's is to Opera.
Paul Potts(an opera singer) won Britains Got Talent in an earlier year. He was a mobile phone salesman, that was yet undiscovered.
and then came .....Jonathan and Charlotte.
Eat your heart out Pavarotti.
Here is a clip(Not from Britain's Got Talent)

I don't much care for opera, but there is no denying the talent of this young man.

It's too bad that they aren't still performing together.
I thought they made a really good team.
Don't forget Susan Boyle from 2009.

I always wonder when I see opera singers on talent shows how good they really are. I feel like a good, but not great opera singer could impress people who aren't necessarily opera experts. Are these singers really as good as Pavarotti at his peak?

I personally think he is. I've listened to bit of Pavarotti.
Music is a funny thing. It speaks to everyone differently.
Art is not quantifiable really.
IMHO it is one thing to be really good, and another to be famous.
I never really cared for Pavarotti or the three tenors or Opera in general.
When I heard Johnathan, I believed he was a star.

She was good. Definitely unexpected.
Incredible.
Love how she breaks into AC/DC!

Were you just a tiny bit surprised when she did?

I think you are making my case for me. If you don't like opera, or opera singers who are considered great by knowledgeable opera fans, it would be hard to compare opera singers on talent shows to established opera stars. It's like some jazz musicians who are popular with the general public, like Kenny G, who hard core jazz fans don't consider the equal of the greatest jazz stars.
