Metallic canvas... yay or nay

I just purchased a roll of metallic canvas and am wondering if any of you have tried this and your thoughts on it. Whether you print your own or farm it out. Yes, I know, horse...gate. The reports state it works well for B/W and reflective color scenes but I guess I'll find out.

I had my print shop print this image http://www.uglyhedgehog.com/t-244326-1.html on some kind of metallic media. I was disappointed. Truth is, it just wasn't an image suitable for printing on that kind of medium. Perhaps sunset/sunrise images would work better. IMHO, it's a good tool, but with very specific limitations.

I had never heard of metallic canvas but it seems to have conflicting purposes (to me). I go to canvas/linen/matte for a soft look. I like metallic for high contrast with sharp details.

Where did you buy it what item, let us know information that will help some one help you.

Again my standard question... is it really a rule for UHH people not give complete information? You, Big-Guy in fact asked for more info in the "DOF / Compression question!

Big-Guy asked ballsafire "Please define what you mean by compression. It has several meanings in photographic circles."

It was a generic question and dealt with the use of metallic canvas. Brand A or B makes no difference to the query. Obviously you have not used such a material so why ask for more info? I do agree that many times people fail to give supporting info on this site but this wasn't one of them. I received the roll yesterday and printed a couple of test strips and 2 - 20x30 prints. As was previously alluded to it is a good option for specific photos, high contrast, reflective and B&W. Other than that regular canvas rules.

I was thoroughly impressed with one test print of giraffes and zebras on a wide open plain with lush green background that resulted in a 3d look without the glasses or eye squinting. GORGEOUS!

Agreed, OddJobber, I too have not heard of Metallic Canvas. I have used and love Redriver Pearl Metallic, love the subtle metallic white that this paper yields. My Epson XP-950 will take roll paper, hence the question "where did you purchase it?" The paper i like which is metalized is similar to "Metallic Canvas is a 100% cotton duck fabric with a pearlescent finish. Produces vibrant color reproduction on a glossy and smoother surface texture than the Fine Art Canvas"...

This is a Breathing Color product. https://www.breathingcolor.com/silverada-metallic-canvas that can be ordered direct from them if you are a US location. Other countries such as Canada need a wholesaler to purchase.

Just noticed you provide a link to a printer that does not provide the actual manufacturers name of the product.
