Well captured dsturr...a touch on the dark side for me but that adds to the realistic mood in this one I think.

The work he's doing, his clothing, the light and the setting... all make for an interesting image. I would have enjoyed shooting the scene also.

30 years old...are you revisiting for new edits? Or ??

This is a lovely B&W. The toning is wonderful.

Thanks Frank.

There was a lot of clutter in the picture and making the image darker helped. But some areas (the right boot for example) had detail and could have been lightened. This would have helped.

Thanks Linda. I was trying to duplicate the picture I have hanging on the wall. Aside fom all the spotting required this one was easier in the darkroom; rotate the easel a bit, move the enlarger up and down for the crop and a more contrasty paper. But as far as the fond memories some have about the darkroom, I don't have any. Or for my 8 track etc.

And to use your words I thought this was an interesting image. Thousands of black and whites and slides and very few interesting ones. I won't be "revisiting" any time soon.

I'm not an expert but I'd say that lightening the face is usually seen as a positive.

I'm sure I saw that scene (or similar) at Williamsburg, and if my shot had come out anywhere like that I'd be a very happy bunny!

This one is an entirely different story than the other. The other was more about the guy, with his arresting gaze and interesting accoutrements. This one is more about the work he is doing, so in my opinion it doesn't rely on a lot of facial detail but the whole environment. A direct gaze would ruin this one. So for once, I don't mind the excessively deep shadows. Good one.

I am amazed/impressed that you have good pictures you took 30 years ago??? Wow!

I agree with Frank it is a bit on the dark side. It left me with the urge to open up the shadows. He is either looking way down or you caught him with eyes closed. I understand the look you were after, some like it, and some don't.

Wonderful shot. A craftsman at work in his well used surroundings. Intent on his work an obvious to the photographer.
