Burning and Dodging

This started out as a fairly flatly lit image. It was nice in its own right. I decided to highlight the face, as if it was lit with a snoot placed above, in front of, and to the subject's left. Thus, the lighting effect was accomplished in PS.

A new word to me... snoot! The lighting effect you created in PS does brighten and bring out the image. Attractive cat to boot as well!

Actually a snoot is an attachment that is placed on a strobe to render a refined circle of light. There are a couple of ways of producing this effect. This is a picture of one of them. The link is to another system that functions pretty much the same way.

I have the Rogue system. However, the original photo was taken without any light modifiers.

Oh, as for the cat, she is an absolute sweetheart.

Fascinating video. Will have to read up more on this. Do you use the Rogue system often in your work? Quite reasonable for what it does, I learn something new everyday! Thank you!

I don't use the Rogue system often. Like any special technique, it has its place.
