Is anyone aware of any new scam going on craiglist.
I sold my camera on craiglist and this person is wiling to pay by paypal. I am wondering what could go wrong in this transaction or could there be a scam in transaction?

I don't know but usually they say something like they are willing to pay full price for the item but that they are buying it for someone else, usually in another state or country. They say because of the hassle or added expense of the shipping etc., they are sometimes willing to pay a little extra. Honestly, I only feel comfortable selling an item in person with cash only. I will never take that offer even though it sounds tempting. I think all they have to do is refute the transaction and PayPal will refund the money to them and you are out the item and the money.
Talk to PayPal and ask them I have not had any problem's with PayPal

Lots of scams but easily spotted by intelligent people. Get your money before shipping and don't take overpayments with the promise to return the balance overpaid.
There is never a guarantee but as long as you are shipping ONLY to the verified Paypal address you should be ok.
I've bought and sold a lot over the years using Paypal without problems.
They can have PayPal rescind the payment days after you already shipped it. I for one wouldn't risk it. Also showing up in person has risk if you go that route make sure they meet you somewhere like the parking lot of a police station which are surrounded by cameras usually.

Tell them to send money to you , and that the camera is not leaving the house tell you have money in hand , or send it c.o.d. cash on delivery. By mail or U.P.S.
Thanks every one for the responses. Forgot to mention that camera advertised in Mississippi, A person from Texas contacted me and wanted to have it shipped to Ohio.
That worries me.

No "new" scams on CL, just ALL the old ones recycling all the time. I read once that 50% of all buy contacts made to CL sellers were from scammers, I fully believe it, but most of them are quite obvious as that is the kindergarten for scammers, Ebay and Amazon are where they are the most skillful.
I actually had some fun with one scammer there, he sent me a "home made" check for $500 over my asking price to ship something to his brother in law in Hawaii. I promptly boxed up a brick and shipped it to him using his address as both the shipping AND return address. Cost him a pretty penny to accept it that way, but I think he got the word that I knew he was as dumb as a stump! I turned the check and the details over to USPS for mail fraud charges, their investigator did contact me for copies of the listing, the responses, and the phoney check which they were going to prosecute because the amount was over $1500. I never heard more of the matter though, except for the idiots email address is no longer valid.

So true. I was amazed at the stupid stuff I saw when selling furniture that was being replaced by original antiques to match my house. I got a $5,000 check for a $300 piece. They wanted change. The check was a stolen one from a legitimate firm in Texas.

Exactly what I thought. This is a scam. Don't even think about selling to that scammer. I always put in my ad "no scammers, cash only, meet in public place only, no shipping, no PayPal" This usually deters them from even trying.
Smells like a scam. The value of Craigs list is local buyers and cash transactions. If you are willing to ship then look to E-Bay, and paypal there is the best way to go. But you pay for that security, about 10%. But paypal from TX and ship to OH smells to high heaven. Better to refuse the deal, and turn it in to Craigs for them to track down as well!
Definite SCAM. I have people phoning me from N.Y. when my ad is local Waterloo ON asking for me to sent it somewhere.... Never.
Finally it is over. It was a scam.
This lady sent money through payPal. I got money pending notification. Then I got transaction complete notification. Unfortunately I was out. Read the email subjects only on my cell phone. Came home and checked payPal.com and my account. No transaction details. checked the email headers. emails not from payPal but from P.Member@usa.com. Glad, caught it on time before I shipped the camera.
Thanks every one for helping.

Be careful. Make sure you login to your PayPal account to verify the funds are there. Craig's list is notorious for faking Paypal emails. I was scammed for $2200 by exactly that kind of fake website. If you login, you cannot be caught in a scam.
