I took this Gulf Fritillary Butterfly at Arnold's Butterfly Heaven. Camera Info;
Camera - Nikon D300S
Lens - Nikon 70-200mm f-2.8 VR with an extension tube
Flash - Nikon SB800 with a diffuser
Handheld and manual focus this image.
Camera Setting;
ISO - 400
Speed - 1/250
f-stop - f-18
I used both Lightroom 3 and Photoshop CS4 to enhance this photo.
I would appreciate feedback and critique of the post processed photo.
RAW photo without and post processing
Post Process Photo that I was able to print 11X12"
Did you specifically need such a tight crop? Because I'm kind of liking the space and composition of the unedited version. Maybe a little more 'Rule of Thirds'? Crop the butterfly so it is slightly more bottom right? Also when you bumped the exposure or contrast in post- It made your image look a little blown out in the whites. I'm loving the details though, beautiful capture!

Very nice job of cropping for better composition as well as kicking up the highlights and snap. I love it.

I like the way you removed the background clutter so cleanly.

And a side note here also, look at the diagonal lines of the butterfly's body opposing the diagonal of its wings. Both diagonals flow toward the upper corners of the frame like a triangle. Great composition.
I like the both of them the first for its added content and the second as a close up.....very nice
I think I like the close up better. I would buy a photo like that because, to me, it's very unique.

I like both of them. Did you use the lense in your profile picture?
Awesome Job! I like both but the second is my favorite!
