Corkscrew Swamp Birds (Set 2)

Yesterday I posted the first set of photos from a very brief visit to the Corkscrew Swamp Sanctuary in Southwestern Florida - about 30-40 miles East of Ft. Myers. ( http://www.uglyhedgehog.com/t-445752-1.html )

This set features the birds we saw. These were "the usual suspects" of Florida wading birds - up close and in a swampy setting - but we were also honored by the appearance of a red-shouldered hawk who snagged a snake right in front of us. He was not happy being watched so closely, and tried to fly off with his heavy prize - in the end he settled for moving it a little further from the boardwalk. These are hand-held, with a Canon 6D and 100-400 telephoto (version I), and so some were pushing the ISO to the stratosphere - 8,000 and above. I am going to go back and spend a few days with my tripod next year at this time for sure!

Nice shots. You must have been wearing boots on that trip.

Steve, excellent series. I sure do miss the opportunities that Florida has for photography. Do you by chance know what kind of snake the Hawk was able to make dinner of? Thanks for sharing your photos.

Definitely a "swampy" swamp. It must have been challenging but you got really nice shots of these locals!

Beautiful set, Steve, and the lighting is great in the outstanding hawk images. Such a beautiful place and thank goodness for Audubon and we have been a member for many years!

Great shots Doc! The best part of that place is that you don't have to leave the boardwalk as it goes right through the swamp! I will be there again the end of this month and I hope it's still target rich!
