New Bird for Me... Do you Recognize it?

I was strolling in Fernbank Park near the Ohio River in Cincinnati, Ohio the other day and I saw what I thought was a Red Breasted Woodpecker on the ground pecking about in the dirt...
I thought that it was unusual so I snapped a photo of it before it flew away. When I downloaded the image to my computer I was surprised to see that it wasn't a Red Breasted Woodpecker...
Does anyone out there know the name of this bird? I have looked and couldn't find it listed anywhere... I must admit that I gave up after a short look... I was hoping that someone would recognize it...

Flicker, likely male. I'm in California so I don't know your "Eastern" birds as well. Northern Flicker, Red Shafted. Not a Yellow Shafted. Not going to look up all the types or synonyms of American Flickers right now. Flickers are types of Woodpeckers. Nice bird shot.

Thanks IBM for your comment and info... much appreciated...

My older brother worked for IBM for 35 years before retiring.... he was a Customer Engineer if my memory serves me correctly... he has passed and very much missed... he would have been 87 this year... I can remember when I was just a kid that he was required to go to school every year to keep up with new IBM technology, and he converted a spare bedroom to an IBM text book library! Thanks again for your comment and information regarding the Northern Flicker.
