Loc: Florida's East Coast
This past weekend my wife and I drove four hours to Southwest Florida to visit the Cape Coral Burrowing Owls and the Corkscrew Swamp Sanctuary. WOW! I am blessed to live near - and volunteer for - the Viera Wetlands, which I considered must be the best place to photograph Florida's wildlife, but I will concede it to the number two spot! The Corkscrew Swamp Sanctuary (
http://corkscrew.audubon.org/ ), an Audubon Sanctuary, is literally teeming with wildlife - it must be what the Everglades was like before people killed off most of the animals for meat, fur, and feathers. Not to mention the old-growth cypress trees and the rainforest-like vines and epiphytes (the bromeliads, orchids, and mosses growing on the huge old trees). This was a "visit" with my wife - meaning I did not spend the day with my tripod - I will return next winter to spend several days lingering with camera and tripod. But in a short 90-minute visit what I saw was spectacular. Today - the miscellaneous life - tomorrow, the birds.
Looks like a worthwhile visit and that would be your fault!
Looks like there are a lot of things that slither :)
Nice images. What do you think the snakes were? Cottonmouth moccassins or something else? Good job....and you survived!
Superior set. Looking forward to your next set. A must to view in download. Thanks for posting for us. DJT
Nice. Can't wait to see the birds. Will put this place on my bucket list for photography. Hope to see some owl pic. Thanks for sharing.

Yes - it's kind of in the middle of nowhere - about 30-40 miles East of Ft Myers. Well worth the trip, though!

Yes indeed! Fortunately for those who don't like scaly/slimy things, the boardwalk keeps you a few feet above the excitement!

Thanks. I think the first one was - not sure about the second one.

Thanks, Jerry. I posted some owl photos last week -

Super series Steve. I love the plants as well as the critters and you got a very nice sample!

Terrific shots. A few months ago, on my news, there was a video clip of a panther running right by a woman. The boardwalk in your shot look exactly like that video. Gary
Great spot. I live 25 minutes from there.
