Virgo Cluster Of Galaxies x 14

I damaged my Celestron NightScape 8300 Camera so I fell back
onto my Nikon D800E Camera and was pretty disappointed in the
IQ. Way to much Noise and Vignetting. I wonder if the Focal Reducer/
Flattener would help any. The Corners are actually cutoff by the Dew
Shield. I only had enough Battery power to shoot 6 Lights and no
Darks or Bias. DSS wouldn't recognize any stars so it wouldn't stack.
Does anyone know of a better stacking program. I am thinking of
getting the MaxIm DL. Anyway here is the shot I took last night.
Nikon D800E, Celestron 9.25" 2350mm Scope, 1 shot @ 300 sec ISO 180.
I was able to find 14 Galaxies. M86 is in the center not sure of the rest.

Well fiddlestix. At least you weren't down and out. Glad to see you imaging. It sure looks good from here!
5 minutes is a nice long toot.

Being as I'm a glutton for punishment, I chased Thor's Helmet for the 3rd night in a row.
The third time wasn't quite the charm for me. More like used charmin...
I did manage to pull down a ton of images (24 after a bunch of deletes), but poopy IQ. Once I got it pretty well in, I just let the program loop. More of a guiding test than anything else. Nothing worth saving.
What little I had is so rusty, I'm trying to sharpen up my hand with a Brillo Pad.
And tonight has a bunch of faint wispy high altitude stuff. So I'll have to wait to see.
I got a WiFi antenna for my new configuration. But flubbed setting it up. I think I figured out my goof's today. But I'm an Analog guy stumbling through a Digital forest.
I reverted to my laptop last night with a single USB to the powered USB hub. That seems to work great.
Hopefully more play time tonight, before the next weather system slides down. Come on summertime!

Glad you're getting your WiFi fingered out I seemed to be all thumbs last night too.
Didn't have a fully charged Battery and DSLR quit after 6 shots. So no Darks, Flats or Bias.
Good luck tonight it's already cloudy here just North of you. Clear Sun & Mon nights.

Nice shot Craig, so the hyperstar is doing you well!

Like Sonny, I was out last night (til 5am) and discovered a user error at the end of the evening. When I'm setting things up, I turn the gain up full to center my target...oops, forgot to turn it back down when I started imaging.

Hey Brian, thanks for the compliment but no I didn't use the Hyperstar just the DSLR prime focus.

Nice shot! Only about 831 more galaxies to go in that section of the sky. At least I remember reading that there are about 845 galaxies in a 24 degree region of that sky. Clouding up here again. Rain expected AGAIN.

Thanks Jim it was fun having a couple nights to use my scope. I hope you had a few hours to play also.

Glad she liked it!

My Star Tech powered USB hub smoked today. That's the bad news. (It stinked. No smoke, just that Oh _hit smell)
It is covered under their 2 year warranty. That's the good news.
Waiting on an RMA to send it back for replacement.
Fiddle Stix!

Not sure yet. I do have a non-powered 4 port hub to try. But I'm wondering if the stick computer can handle it, so I might try the laptop until it's fixed. (IF we get a glimpse of the skies again.)
Of course it had to fall down on the weekend, when they are closed.
But I'm confident they'll make it right.

Not half bad considering how you had too shot Craig..
Really a nice looking shot.
Have you tried using your SLR with the new setup? It's supposed to work really well.
I hope you get things resolved quickly.

No, I expect you will get better than that image. It has a lot of noise, and I expect with some stacking, you will do better.
