B Weber,
Now that is a gorgeous flower! Does it bloom on any specific cactus?

That is not a picture of a flower but a plant that looks like a flower. It is a variegated Agave potatorum (agaves are not cacti). The photo is a bit bluer than the typical variegated potatorum.

Is there anyway to make an interesting photo of a cactus? I am on my way to Phoenix where I have been once before and couldn't do it then.
Thanks,

Look at some of the photographs of Tom Till or Jack Dykinga. I believe both will have some inspiring cactus shots on their websites.
Just be careful around any cactus in the cholla family (pronounced choya) It is not called the "jumping cactus" for nothing. If you do find a clump of it stuck in your skin, resist the impulse to pull it out with your free hand as it will now have you in two places. Instead, take out a pocket comb and use it to "flip" the offending thing out of your skin quickly. (pulling it out slowly is very painful).
You have all been extremely generous with your knowledge and experience and very encouraging as well. I am sufficiently stoked to try many "gambits" with the camera. Perhaps I can manage a few keepers to share with you all.

You could volunteer as a surrogate. You have been known to be prickly at times!

You got something confused. I would be the cactus, not the sittee.

I would really like to, but my hand is not as steady as it use to be. It would take me forever to hand paint my green cactus to those colors! I think I am just going to have to settle for taking pictures.
Really beautiful shot.

Perhaps lost in translation, I meant for you to be the cactus! Apologies for not being clear!
Perhaps the settee...

For sure, but people would get the point!
Isn't needlepoint an old sewing tradition sometimes used for upholstery and seat covers, at least historically?
