Some examples of what can be found as you travel through the high country. These were originally built for the stockmen to stay while moving stock through the vast mountainous areas of the high country. They are still used for this as well as for overnight emergency stops and for travellers, hikers, or when snow bound. The first is the famous Craig's Hut used in the film "The Man from Snowy River". Unfortunately this has burnt down 3 times and this is a rebuilt replica of what it was like. It is a tourist stop and has easy access for buses and 4 x 4 cars. The rest are found as you drive through the numerous tracks to be found. They are found of all maps in case of emergencies but are often burnt down in area bush fires through summer, only to be rebuilt by local towns or organisations. The last is a Old School House, I believe built in the 1800's ??? This one is built by a homestead that have been appointed the school's caretakers to help with maintenance and upkeep. Usually you can find some stored can food items that have been left or donated for emergency situations. Also some have a log books to record visitor's names and comments, where you are from etc.
