Saw this in my recent travels of a public ash tray. After looking at the filters it made me ask the the rhetorical question
"Why would anyone want to smoke"?

I have always wondered the same thing, just take a whiff of that ash tray, it's enough to make you throw up. I could never understand why someone would take their hard earned money and set fire to it. That being said, I would defend their right to do it as long as they are within the law and not harming anyone else.

Why do people on public assistance always find money to buy cigarettes?

It's a drug , more addicting than Harrowen, the druiggie always finds money for there habit, and one fix cost ten times or more than one pack of ciggs, but any one can quit smoking , they just don't have the will power , I quit after 20 years , but only because I couldn't see
The point of spending 70 cents for a pack a day most days a pack plus 5 ciggs, there is a simple trick to it , quitting I mean !

Look around - see everyone carrying a bottle of water. People walking to work in the early morning drinking beer..People at work drinking Red Bull(Caffeine Drink)...People do what others do....nothing to do with 'Public assistance'.

Yes smoking kills some people, so do cars and planes. Little bugs will kill you too. Too much exercise can kill you. Sitting on your ass will kill you. We all die.

Odd that there has never been a successful lawsuit against the tobacco companies, nor distilleries, or even sugar manufacturers yet everyone 'knows' that their products 'kill you'. It is the Tax the government make from it that is the killer.....

have fun

It's all ready proven that the cost in health care. And the health care costs far out weighs , the tax from coming from ciggerets, by triple
OR more , the problems starts showing up in the smokers when they are in there fiftys, harding of the artties, vaines in legs going,
Heart attacks, kidney failure, and stones , and a bunch of other crap , all caused by smoking , I grew up with at least twenty or thirty Comercial fisherman , there wasn't one who lived past 65, 66, a couple went at 63and , look at the crab fisherman in the bearing sea ,
They all smoke a almost and the skipper of the corneala Marie is dead as his son josh will be when he is fifty something . Sig hanson
Is in rough shape , he's only in his fifties , Johnathan Hillsteand, wild Bill, none of them will see the end of sixty, I smoke salmon every
Christmas , it's cold smoked and in seven days it's cured and hard , just imagine how your lungs look like in twenty years, I have seen pictures , there black not pink or white , if every one would quit smong , the hostpitles would have a lot more room for real people , not self inflicted smokers , who pay tax on sigerets and think there paying there way , that's a joke ,

Nicotine is highly addictive - it is amazing that it is legal. The legislators are as addicted to the tax revenue as smokers are to their cigs. I have had several patients over the years tell me that they used to be addicted to heroin and cocaine and quit those, but could not stop smoking. People always think about the obvious problems with lung cancer and heart attacks, but even if you escape those fates, smokers, by the time they are in their 50's, are very often disabled by their inability to breathe well - they have trouble even getting out and taking a walk. That is pretty sad.

An Australian legislator had a great idea for making tobacco products illegal: make them illegal for anyone born after 2000 to purchase. That way those adults who are addicted can happily stay with their addiction, but the number of NEW smokers is dramatically reduced, resulting in a future without all those premature deaths. Because it does not impact current adult smokers, this law would be more acceptable to legislators and voters alike.

Just think: tobacco is the only product legally sold that, if used according to directions, will kill you.

Heroin as in the reply above spelled "harrowen." Well, the "h" is correct. I think it was Mark Twain (reputed to be a poor speller) who said: "A man who can only think of one way to spell a word lacks imagination."

I even started a collection of amusing typos and errors found on Hedgehog. These include:

"a beautiful seen"

"weight times of several months"

"a hostel environment"

"a guilt frame"

"the funding fathers"

I quit smoking after a ten year habit. I lit up one and had smoked it halfway down but didn't even remember lighting it. I said to myself, That's it, I quit!
I did go through a pack of licorice Velamints daily for about a week and I had to sit on my hands a few times, but I did quit. Back then a carton cost $5.99. I figure I saved about $300.00 a year. A lot of money at the time.
