the oil drill bit is fascinating I have never seen one before  One thing I leaarned from bryan petersons book "learning to see creatively" is look for the shot within the shot. for example with the drill bit a close up in macro mode would turn a good but ordinary photo into a fascinating abstract on shape and texture. If you make the viewer guess just what the heck is that thing they will interact more with the photo. Once you have taken an overal or general shot look for interesting details, contrasts or shapes. By the way Any book by Bryan Peterson is a MUST have for any serious photographer. He takes complicated subjects and with clear easy to understand language makes it so much easier to understand. I also recomend his "understanding exposure.
