Is there a 'normal' or recommended payment process for transactions here on UHH? eg Paypal, personal checks, ship when payment clears etc. I'm sure all Hogger's are very honest, but what would be a reasonable or acceptable level of precaution. I may be putting my A6000 up for sale soon.

PayPal works, but they keep 3% of the deal. Checks or money orders are best if you trust the seller. Look at their UHH feedback score for guidance there.

PayPal is good, but naturally, they charge the seller a fee. This is what they've sold for recently on ebay.

As for "I'm sure all Hogger's are very honest," can you really vouch for all 71,505 of us?

Paypal seems to be the most common payment method.
You get to see the payment before shipping and both parties are protected.
I've bought and sold several items using Paypal and never had a problem.

I'm not a fan of PayPal - in my opinion they delay transactions to their (float) advantage. In the transactions I've done, I request cashier (or "bank") check, money order or personal check. Payment has never been a problem. I've had positive feedback at least six times - clear, frequent communication is the key.

Right. Three days is typical.

Cashier’s check or money order. Cash it, then ship.

I guess Pay Pal is the safest but it will cost you 3%. I have made a few sales here with just the buyer sending out a check and I sent the gear. Never had a problem.

I am somewhat amused at the presumption that non-payment is a bigger issue than "non-shipment." Both methods require trust and essentially have the same liability,so Paypal seems to be a safer method for both and at a small cost.

Mmmh, I used Pay Pal a many times, but there was never a fee (buying or selling)!

Then you have never used PayPal for a transaction without lying. Their transaction fee to the seller is a flat rate 3%. You CAN use PayPal to send funds to a friend or relative for FREE, but to do so you click a box certifying there is no transaction taking place involving those funds.
All you have to do is actually read their policy and fees page.
The worst issue with lying over fees is if the buyer returns the item for any reason of dissatisfaction, you cannot refund because of the statement of no transaction on record.

I have sold 2 cameras and several lenses here on the Hog. In each case the buyer was a long term member and I told them to just put a check in the mail when I sent them the UPS tracking number. One member, MT Shooter, bought a 70D from me. He put the check in the mail before I even had a chance to ship the camera!
