Leaving my Nikon SLR behind for good. Time for digital (and not just my iPhone!). Getting ready to purchase a D7200 body. Saw online at Walmart for $788.95. Seemed too good to be true so I called. They claim it is a US warranty camera with full English manual - not gray market. Nikon & Amazon list at $999, so I'm skeptical.

Excited to get on the D-train!

Anyone know for sure, or how to confirm its not gray?

On the box, above the barcode, is a number D7200 BK__. It should have the letters US at the end.
Check Ken Rockwell's site for clarification: http://www.kenrockwell.com/nikon/d7200/D3S_2305-1200.jpg

I'd be a bit suspicious. That is less than Costco's (Costco's is a package with two lenses, so not easy to compare directly), and B&H's and Adorama's price of $996.95. Funny, a lot of people are rediscovering film photography.

But it might be legit if Walmart wants them out of their warehouse. There are rumors of that model being near the end of its run. That can be a good thing as you can get better prices.

This makes sense. From another UHH'er "On the box, above the barcode, is a number D7200 BK__. It should have the letters US at the end. Check Ken Rockwell's site for clarification: http://www.kenrockwell.com/nikon/d7200/D3S_2305-1200.jpg" Good luck. A great camera choice I might add.

In the on-line ad, in the "Questions" section, two people answered 'NO'. Do they know for sure? Who knows, but that should at least heighten your suspicion.

The ad clearly states that the camera is NOT being sold by Walmart. Walmart includes products from other vendors on its website. It probably receives a commission from the seller. I'd definitely avoid it. Buy from a reputable authorized dealer. The $$$ that you'd save won't mean anything if you have a problem and Nikon USA doesn't support your camera.

"Anyone know for sure, or how to confirm its not gray?"

Nikon has long used the first digit of the serial number to indicate region for many of their products. Traditionally, that first digit was used like this:

1 Not used
2 Japan
3 USA
4 Europe (excluding UK)
5 Canada
6 Australia/New Zealand
7 Asia (excluding Japan)
8 United Kingdom
9 Not used

Directly from the ad:
"Important Made in USA Origin Disclaimer: For certain items sold by Walmart on Walmart.com, the displayed country of origin information may not be accurate or consistent with manufacturer information. For updated, accurate country of origin data, it is recommended that you rely on product packaging or manufacturer information."
You won't know until you see the (verified unopened) box.

LOL,yes,Steve, that's why I cited the ad! Look at questions, look at reviews, check out the sellers website.....no secrets. Another funny thing is that on their site the camera is $739. So easy to get the magic fingers going on the keyboard, but difficult to look around and read.

Not exactly correct, Nikons USA Body serial numbers actually start at "25XXXXX" and go through "39XXXXX".

Funny, I'm only seeing $788 price here.

The buyers for Walmart and Sam's Club went a little overboard on purchases of some cameras so they have to discount them to clear out the warehouses. Some Sam's Clubs have put 70Ds on a very steep discount. Last time I was in my local Sam's they had aprx a pallet worth of 70Ds on display and the 80D has been out a year this month.

Walmart probably purchased a gazillion of each product and prices them to move, quickly. That and could you imagine the legal ramifications if WalMart sold grey market products? That would be worth going to Law School to become a Lawyer just to prosecute the case!

If you look at that sales posting, the D7200 is NOT sold by Walmart, it is sold by "DIGITAL DIRECT" a very well known grey market Ebay seller.
