Wendy, the good news is that you are not alone in that rut. However, you can get out of it. The best way is to take your camera and start looking. Start looking at things you've looked at before, but perhaps never seen. Pick one of those things and find others like it. Start doing a series of those things. That might work. But the first thing to do before you even attempt this task is to get rid of the feeling that there is nothing is photogenic. Everything is, perhaps in different light, night time, or just from a different point of view.

Hello All, I am in a photographic rut. Living in East Central Florida at this time of the year the weather is cooler and light can be good but apart from the ocean and wetlands it is not very photogenic. I have a problem that for various reasons I cannot travel far from home although I don't know where close to me it would be much different. We have been here for about 35 years so I know the area well.
I try to sell pictures on Etsy, here is the link, feel free to critique. https://www.Etsy.com/shop/Floridafoto. My pictures do not generate much interest, or sales. So I need a new topic or any ideas that you think may help. I just don't know. My cameras are not fancy but they are fine for my needs.
Thanks in advance.
Wendy

Hi Wendy: Try capturing your emotions in photos. Take photos of greed, love, fear, disgust, admiration... Include people or things or events or objects - anything that says to you the emotion you are feeling. Go out, look around, get in touch with your emotions and then take pics.

OK I did not see this option mentioned. That would be Close Up and Macro. I will never forget a line from a photographer/traveler his quote " I SPENT THE SUMMER PHOTOGRAPHING MY SMALL BACK YARD" That might be a little extreme. The other is go to Black and White. Both thoughts are suggestions. Last, put your camera on the shelf for a little time and go Fishing.

Do you belong to PPA? If so, you'll have a local or regional chapter and it should be loaded with top notch help.

Good news! You have landed on everyone's "dead zone" of photography; what to shoot! Lay down under a blooming (or even a nude) tree. It will change your perspective....what do you see -- branches shooting out of your camera! Go to a museum or art exhibit. Shoot from beneath a subject. If a second floor, shoot directly above an exhibit. Go to Youtube. Look at photography how-to videos. Experiment with something that is interesting. Click into any of the "Photo" topics on the Hog. Perhaps inspiration will strike!

What do you hate? Photograph protestors; ugly animals? Shoot your favorite foods - or someone eating it!

Have fun...just getting out and about may get the juices flowing!!

Hi I went to your Etsy site, what am I getting for my $10.00, a digital image a 5x7 an 8x10 I wasn't real sure or I missed the info.
Selling pix on line is TOUGH. Ive sold more on ebay than anyplace else.
In fla, everyweekend is some type of fair craft show etc. Frame some Fla type pix and give a try selling them.

As for the slump, just go shoot somethimg different. One of the things I do when I have nothing to shoot and Im bored. I shoot grave stones. I'm attempting to get one from every year. Apparently no one died in 1952 Ive looked thru 3 cemeterys and havent found one. I have most of the 1800's and some 1600 and 1500,
There is always something to shoot, just look around. Someone said they were in a slump and decided to spend a day just shooting intheir yard. They ended up spending months shooting, leaves , different patterns of leaves ,grasses, birds, insects etc.

Short version the muse inspires the artist to create, quite often they can be husband and wife.
