Sorry, Catchlight, I did not mean to sound snide. I would never treat a fellow poster on this site in a snide manner. I was simply pointing out, in a lighthearted manner (hence the "Ha Ha" start) that for many of us the reason(s) for a backup camera is/are to be prepared for more than just a "failure" within the camera itself. Outside factors (dropping the camera, having it knocked out of your hands by a careless fellow traveler, knocked off the shelf/bed/dresser by a careless hotel maid, having it stolen on while on a once-in-a-lifetime trip, etc) can and do happen. And. my backup would never be another DSLR. It is a simple point and shoot (zs50) that rides in my shirt pocket - enough to get me through until I can get my main camera replaced or repaired which usually cannot happen when you are on a trip.
Again, sorry.

...all true and not offended. I wish someone had told a story like: ...how their camera started smoking as the bride was kissing the groom and they quickly grabbed the "back up camera" from their bag and kept shooting...saving the day and making that $3k second camera really worth the investment...didn't happen, oh well.
Instead its stories of mishaps and misfortune...

My Canon 7D totally quit working, later found out it was the vertical grips problem, but at the time I was able to use my XTi. No money on the line, just fun, but my "back up" came thru like a champ.

Does any one have an actual failure that the back up camera saved the day in the last recent years?
What was the issue and camera?
Well the moment I don't have a back up equipment, that's the exact time I will need back up! its Murphys Law.
