Yongnuo NY100mm f2 lens - by China
My order arrived postage free after 17 days from Zhen Zhen, China. I promised to give information on this lens (introduced last year) to "royden from Dallas, GA." This is a near clone of the Canon 100mm f/2 lens introduced many years ago and is selling today at ~ $350 - $500; so you can do some $ saving. I paid only $169.69 for this brand new lens. You can look up the specs and other information by searching on the web (I searched on Ebay: "Yongnuo YN100mm F2 Medium Telephoto Prime Lens for Canon EOS Rebel Camera P3H1"). Having received it last Friday, I've been using it to shoot indoors and outside in the neighborhood. My impression? Pleased with the speed it has in dark rooms!! Pleased with image quality (IQ) too!
It weighs 13.6 oz.; has AF & MF (with manual focus override); 9 aperture blades for asteral effect, blurs background and highlights the subject in F/2 aperture; has quiet DC focusing motor; it is a PRIME 100mm lens; filter diameter 58mm. So-- it is nearly like the prime Opteka 85mm f/1.8 lens except it has Auto Focus which is very helpful (I own both). After all - China has come a LONG way in technology, so I'm trying their photography products! I have a Canon T1i (500D) crop camera but works on any Rebel (crop) or EOS (full frame) also 5D, 5D IV, 1300D, T6, 760D, 1D, 5DS etc.
Any comments, anecdotes, etc. welcome.

That's a good price for that lens. $170. I doubt it will compare in optics to a Canon lens. What you have is a clone. Remember, having a lens, is better than no lens all. Enjoy it.

The 105 f/2.0 Laowa Smooth Trans Focus is another interesting lens from China, with 9 aperture blades for f/2.0 - f/22.0 and 14 blades for T/3.2 - T/8.0. It’s all metal, seems very well made, weighs about 745g (about 26 1/4 oz.) and takes 67mm filters. I bought it from B&H last month, haven’t had it on a camera yet. May run some tests this weekend. Good luck with your Yongnuo.

Consider the new and expensive Nikon 105mm f/1.4 is also made in China.

And you haven't tried it yet?? I know I'd be more anxious than that! I read Ken Rockwell's review of this lens and he has some very good things to say for your lens. It is completely manual and is interesting how it handles light (T/3.2 - T/8.0). The price is est. at $700! I wish you luck with your Laowa too, and for that price it should do well! I wonder for what special purpose you purchased this special lens---

Yes, nice lens weight 34.8 oz. at $2,200! Too rich for this little man! My Yongnuo NY100mm f2 lens - made in China will have to do!

How does this lens compare to your Opteka 85mm f/1.8?

This lens has fast auto focus while the opteka's focus is "touchy'' and needs time to use properly - it is 100% manual.

Too many other irons in the fire. Just read Rockwell’s review, sounds reassuring (I guess!). Mine is a Nikon mount, there is no chip - don’t need it for my Df. I may be getting dotty in my old age, but I’m getting away from trying to have everything in the scene in focus to isolating certain subjects from the background and want smoother out of focus blur than I’m getting with most of my other lenses. I’ll try to run some tests in a day or two. Really hoping it performs well close up.

"Asteral effect"
What is that? I googled it, but only found "astral effect".

So what did you intend to spell? I'm still confused.

"astral effect" hope this clears the confusion meaning *** the star-like effect of bokeh in the background; which is easier done with a fully wide open aperture on the lens i.e. 0.2 ---
