Great work! Good eyes! I was there on Sunday and spent my time looking for Rails and Bitterns and did not see one..maybe my eyes are getting old like the rest of me..;o)

Thanks! Carol - the problem was you were looking for them.... People ask me when do the cara-cara's show up - I tell them "any time I don't have my camera with me!"

Excellent set, Steve and always look forward to you wetlands posts, and think this may be one of your bests! Thanks!

Thanks, swamp-cork. The new (refurbished) 6D helps a lot. I am very pleased with how sharp the images are.

A very pleasant weekend at the wetlands. Many birds in their breeding plumage (green around the eyes is typical). The pair of baby limpkins from December have survived and are fully-fledged. Some large gators now. Lots of visitors walk around here, so the larger gators will probably be taken out soon. It only takes one person letting their toddler play at the edge of the water to create a catastrophe - people just don't appreciate how fast these behemoths can move when they want to grab something to eat. The least bittern is probably the most asked-about bird here. There are quite a few of them here, but they can be hard to spot - they fly from the outside of one clump of reeds to the outside of another and immediately disappear into the midst of the reeds. It takes some skill and a lot of luck to see one.

Where on FL. east cost? I'm in Hollywood FL. now escaping winter in New England. Have some great bird shots from Gulf coast. Learned about the breeding green on egrets at the Venice Rookery.
