A longer reach

Curious if anyone has experience with the Lumix DMC FZ70. The reviews are pretty good, but I've never seen it discussed on the Forum. I understand its lacking in low-light, but the long reach is something I'm missing and the price is certainly attractive at $249. Thanks, Mick

For a similar price you could find a used Canon SX50 HS (24-1200mm 35mm equiv)

Yes, the reviews are good. This Bridge camera is compared to the Canon SX50. Both the Panasonic FZ70 and Canon SX50 have both been discontinued. The Panasonic now has the FZ80 out now, for $397 new, and the Canon SX60 is going new for about $450+ new. Actually, one of my cameras, a Nikon Bridge L840 cost me $225 new, and has less features than the Panasonic FZ70. For $249, I would suggest you buy it now. It has an electronic viewfinder, hot shoe, shoots RAW, and has16 megapixels. And a focal length to 1200mm.

If you think you can purchase any quality for that price, you do not understand anything about photography. All you want is a long zoom lens like everyone else has to have and will not happy with the results.

Thanks. That's why I asked for input. It has good reviews, yet the price is low. I do understand something about photography, but I'm always willing to learn from you experts.

The Panasonic FZ70 is a Bridge Camera, not a pocket camera.

I have had one for years and have been very pleased with it. When it came out it was the longest zoom Bridge camera at the time. Like most long zoom Bridge cameras there is a trade off with Low Light, but I find for what I shoot that is not a problem. Right now the price is right. The Canon SX60, which I also own, is felt to be a better camera if you are willing to spend about $250 more. But, all in all, I think you will be happy with the FZ70. Here is a review of the camera: https://www.dpreview.com/search/?query=FZ70&product=panasonic_dmcfz70

I took a quick glance at the specs and it has a f2.8 lens. That's not going to hurt you any in low light. Not sure why you think it doesn't perform in low light.
