They are available if you use 'Reply' (button directly under the post) instead of 'Quick Reply' (at bottom of page).

Bob, the symbols are called "emoji". If you have a handheld device they are available for free in the App Store for your device. Do a Google search for emoji and you will be on your way. Joe

If you don't see them at the bottom of the reply page you will need to activate them by going to click "My Profile" at the top of any UHH page and then, on the profile page, scroll down until you see
"Show smilies when composing" and check the box.

I could be wrong but if you use an emoji from iPhone it only shows if person views post with iPhone. Best to use "smilies" from the forum:

(viewing this from my iPhone I see both emoji's but when I view it on my iMad (Safari) I only see the "forum" emoji)

Goto "My Profile", see top of page, scroll down until you find "Show smiles when composing" and check the box, now click the update button.
The Smilies will now show when you post and you just choose whichever one you want.

Good morning Bob. Click on the (Show Smilies) in the lower left corner of the comment box just to the right of the send and preview buttons. That will show the smilies, then just click on whichever one you want.

In the same area note the "show tags" choice. That's where you can see how to apply bold, italic and other formatting, along with your smiles and thumbs
