Bristol Beaufort Mark V111 crashed in 1945.
Taking off from Queensland in May 1945 it crashed the day later in thick tropical jungles and was not found for many many years. The wreckage was hidden in the thick bush and was discovered years later by accidient and made public for visitors to view where it laid on impact all those years before.
I recall those days... in 45 I was 9 years old... for me the war was forever and Roosevelt was the leader forever.
I remember seeing on rare occasion groups of planes. Living in Michigan most every one was in the war effort... Willow Run was a huge factory.... "This is the plant where more than 40,000 workers from across America came together to build more than 8,600 B-24 Liberator bomber aircraft." The a tech advances in aircraft in WW2 was amazing. The first large aircraft I flew in was a DC3... small and rough by today's standards.
I hope you enjoyed this memories from Australia.
