1992-8 Fujichrome 100 film

I found a number of posts in Search regarding the use of expired film but it isn't clear what I should expect when I use this 25 year old film. It was discovered in a camera bag found in an obscure closet by a friend so I know it was not preserved. I would plan to have it processed and scanned directly to a CD. What do you think will be the likely results disregarding my obvious lack of photo skills.

Was the closet "refrigerated, or a freezer".... Crapshoot out of just a closet.

I buy and shoot film frozen or refrigerated since it was new, but out of a closet ... not much hope. I would shoot film that old and get unusually good results if refrigerate the whole 25 years. Not uncommon for pro's and advanced film user's to shoot refrigerated film.

By all means, try this film! Just do not use it for any important photos. There is almost NO chance of obtaining decent images.

Having sold Fujifilm for almost 30 years I can tell you that, while the film is extremely stable, 20+ years past the expiration date will be testing it far beyond its limits. Couple that with locating a lab doing E-6 processing that's in control and you have a formula for disaster. I would try one roll just for the heck of it and once it's scanned give it a go in LR or Photoshop. Would love to see your results.

Thanks for the feedback. I've seen the doubtful responses to the use of expired film but rarely any specifics. I have it loaded now and will plan to send the roll off to Dwayne's in Parsons, KS early next week. I've always gotten good service from them but your comment suggests I should call to make sure they can process it.

No need to call, it still requires standard E-6 processing. Dwayne's is Fujifilm's authorized US lab, good reviews all round. Let us know how your images turn out.

Yes, please! I have about 40 rolls of Fujichrome in the freezer.

If it were in my freezer, it would be gone in 3 or 4 months!

I would not expect very good result, since like you said it was not preserved, but allowed to degrade rather severe! I had similar aged film processed, but it was well preserved and turned out well!

Compared to negative film, slide film (such as Fujichrome) does not hold up well over time.
If you plan to use it, I recommend generous exposure bracketing, increasing the chance that at least a few frames are usable.

Thanks for the tip. This is the kind of advice I was hoping to get.
