I see it's an Aussie lobster. I thought it looked different.

It's a beautiful creature and your pics would enhance a biology textbook or archive.

hmmmm......looks like the lobster lost the battle while being captured....no antennae....best not to break those off if the lobster happens to be an egg bearing female.....

This was bought from the locals by a friend of ours during our trip. Australia has strict regulations on fish catches and heavy fines apply.

being a long time lobster diver I cringe when I see broken antennae....and I'm sure the aussies regulate that industry well....but, gosh...what a great taste, eh????

Yummy but a shame it was such a beautiful creature. Just the size and colours took me by surprise.

even when wearing gloves, catching them by hand tears up your hands a bit....the spines are extremely sharp and the little "blades" on the tail are equally sharp....if you come home from a day of diving with hands that hurt, you've probably had a successful day of diving. When I first moved to florida in 1980 the daily limit was 24 per person per day and it was common to get that many....12-15 was a bad day. Last time I was down there a couple of years ago the limit was 6 and getting 6 was considered a great day. Florida has not managed that resource well sadly.....
