I have been reading all your posts about the various topics and finally decided to ask for help for myself. I just retired after 40 years of being a Medical Technologist. I bought my Nikon D 80 in 2006. It has given me 10 + years of wonderful pictures and enjoyment. I am ready to move up to a better camera. I will buy nothing but a Nikon. I love to capture wildlife, rodeo shots, sunsets, and shooting that perfect bald eagle shot is on my bucket list. Seems like I am always running into low-light issues also. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Maren

D500 or D7200 with a 200-500 f/5.6 and a mild wide angle to mild telephoto zoom.

Get the Nikon D500, that is the camera you are describing when you tell about what you photograph.

I'm using the 18-300 for walk around. and the 300-500 for the reach on a D7200.

If budget is not a concern, get a D500. At 10 frames per second you'll capture great rodeo shots. I have a D500. It's a very impressive camera. The D5 and D500 are the first Nikon DSLR cameras to have a processor dedicated to just the autofocus. If you get one be sure to program the Fn1 and Fn2 buttons. The video record button can also be re-programmed. I don't shoot video so I assigned Mode to that button.

The D500 is a wonderful lens. For equine I would suggest a 70-200 f/2.8. The 200-500 is too much for that type of shooting. Birds and wildlife are better suited for the 200-500. The 10 fps and low light ability will make you happy.

Another vote for the D500 and the 200 - 500 Nikkor. If there really is no budget, the Nikkor 800 mm on a D500 really gets you close to the eagles if you can't get there physically.

Go big Nikon D810, I love mine.
I shoot basketball, football, baseball and nature. I shoot indoors and out, early morning midday and low light, I love it.

Low light also means that you probably want to look at lenses as well as cameras (that means looking at f/2.8 and larger)
