Since The University of South Carolina no longer allows photography with detachable lenses longer than 6" ... here's a post from back when they did.
Very nicely done... excellent narrative... wonderful crisp focus on the keen concentration of spiking player's face...
You've nail the decisive moment precisely... perfect timing! Best yet isolating the stands from the key player via f/2.8 razor thin DOF...
Always good to show that the game is well attended by choosing a background with all seats taken...
Editors love this...
Easier to get better shots of more practiced / talented players at the collegiate level, not to mention being in a better lit venue than high school. I'm just really miffed that the University started enforcing a "no detachable lens over 6" rule". Oh sure ... I could use an f4-5.6 DX kit lens on the D750 ... but what's the point. I used to buy season tickets every year and attend 95 % of their matches ... since being asked to leave my camera outside. I appealed to the University for several months and they were adamant that they had their own photographer and would not credential me to allow my 70-200 f2.8 into the venue. As a result they lost an avid fan and ... I shoot just HS now ... and then it's only my own school's team at away matches. I run the announcing station for home matches. High schooler's don't get as high at the net and they are not as predictable on the floor either. But thanks for looking and for the kind words.
