Is the lamp is competing with the Orchid or is the lamp complementing/offsetting the Orchid?

It would be better if the orchid were in the foreground and the lamp a little further behind. In that way, the lamp would be a little smaller and a little out of focus but still provide balance and the orchid would be the center of interest.

purely geometric lamp versus convoluted nature, what do you think?
Or you could go west coast fruitcake and say the lamp is mothering the flower.

I think the lamp omplements the orchid. It is throwing a nice light on it.

No competition. Just a lovely composition with classical elements---beautifully photographed.

Competing, though it would be interesting to see with the orchid overlapping edge of lamp a bit. Probably better if lamp smaller in the frame, though.

It's quite nice. I think it could be improved by having the vertical axis of the lamp at the very right of the image. As is, the lamp is competing, just a little, with the flowers.

I hate images like this, where all the elements are there,
just begging to be scooted around this way and that, and
new ideas on how to compose springing up before you can finish the last one.

The colors in the lamp compliment the orchid and I think the shape of the orchid balances the lamp. I think it is a lovely and successful composition, but I would experiment with geegee's suggestion and see if you prefer it.

I think you rather accomplished to show them together in harmony. The subtle colors play nicely together and the soft lighting underlines the fact.
The lamp might benefit from a small amount of softness, but overall, I would be happy, you did a great job!!

To All,

Geegee, Thanks for your thoughts, I have made another atempt and will post at the end of this as well as explain how I got to the first one.

Longshadow, thanks for looking and commenting!

oldtigger, I like what I posted, but understand there can be improvements.

leftj, Thank you, and Thank you for looking and commenting

Pilot 6, Thank you for your kind words, glad you like it.

Linda From Maine, Glad you stopped by, I agree with most of the suggestions here, I will post another at the end of this.

rmalarz, Thank you I will look at a tighter crop.

Erv, As always glad to hear from you....Thanks, and thanks for looking and commenting!

repleo, Thank you, I see it your way. Check out the re positioned version below.

So the issue with bringing the Orchid forward (this is how I started), the flower then becomes back lit and darkens the front of the flower.
This is how the first post evolved. For the new post below. I broke out the flash and tried to add some fill in light. I'm not sure if it was effective or not.
It did add some unwanted hot spots on the lamp (which I worked on to remove)

Anyway here is version II, and Thank you all for looking and commenting.

The lamp looks more subordinate now.
