Can't seem to get over my 'photographers block'. Does anyone have a suggestion for a site with free photo challenges and if possible critique? I'm not looking to leave this site. I just need to get some motivation so I drag my self out and start taking photos again. :|
How about looking for a photograhy meetup group in your area.nothing like going with others to get you out and movtivated. I belong to two in my area..
You live in California. There are enough things to keep you shooting for a lifetime.
The fall season may not hold much excitement in CA but you always have the people, cars, ocean, mountains.
Kids are great and sports are nice. Flowers bring colors and winter brings snow. Bikes and bats, cats and kites. Shoot some by day and some by night.
Freeways, sunrise, sunset. Trees, desert, snow? Farmers market, birds, dogs, cats, monkeys, horses.
Rain, fog, sunshine, rainbows. Lightning, old buildings, new buildings.
You've got zebras, donkeys, lions and bears. Weirdos, whackos, dwarfs and chairs.
What else could you ask for?

Something that I participate in with a few friends is a 52 week challenge. Each week we pick a theme...can be anything, and during that week we take pics of it. We've done clouds, trees, feet, smiles, bottles, rings, bugs whatever pops into your head. Its a challenge but it does make you go looking for things to photograph. Right now we don't really critique its more to spur the imagination, but its fun. In January we are contemplating a 365 project..yep a different theme everyday. You can google either 52 week or 365 day photography projects and get some ideas.... just a thought.. might be kind of fun..... could even post the theme then the pics here. But I would suggest starting out NO CRITIQUE, just sharing.

when I stopped going out to shoot specific subjects like cars, flowers, archetecture etc and started out looking for shots that expressed concepts such as color, texture. line shadow, form, geometric shapes. abstract images etc the quality of my work increased tremendously and I haven't had a day with my camera that i couldn't find something to shoot. I can't rember if ive recomended this book to you or not but i credit my insperation to bryan petersons "learning to see creatively" available at amzon.com new and used. it really has had more impact on my work than anything else. here are three shots inspired by Mr P.
